Before you come in
First-timer questions.
Do I need to already be fit to start?
No. Most people who come to PWR are starting strength training for the first time, returning after a long break, or trying something new after years of cardio or group classes. Your first session is a conversation and a movement assessment, not a test.

What happens in the first session?
We talk through your goals, your training history and anything your body is working with. Then we coach you through a few foundational movements so you leave knowing what training at PWR actually feels like.

How often should I train?
Most new clients start with two sessions a week. That is enough frequency to learn technique quickly without letting training take over your calendar. Some prefer one session plus independent work; others come three times a week.

What does personal training cost on the Upper West Side?
Rates depend on coach experience, session length, package size and whether you train one-on-one, in a duet or in a small group. PWR sells session packages rather than memberships, so there is no monthly fee on top of the training.

Can I train if I am over 50, pregnant or coming back from an injury?
Yes. We have dedicated tracks for adults over 50 and clients training through pregnancy and postpartum, and we regularly program around injuries in coordination with physicians and physical therapists.

Do I need a membership?
No. PWR uses session packages, not memberships. Single sessions expire in one month, 6-packs in three months, 12-packs in six months and larger packages in a year. You only pay for the sessions you use.

Still have questions?
Book a complimentary consultation and we'll talk through whatever is on your mind.
Technique first
Strength second. Ego never.
Your first sessions are about learning the movements, understanding your body, and building a baseline. We add load only when the form is there. Every client — from complete beginners to experienced lifters — starts with a conversation, not a test.
