What it is

One session, coached for everyone in the room

Group Strength is a full-body strength class led by a PWR coach. Everybody works through the same programming — your coach handles the weight selection, the technique cues and the modifications so the session fits you.

Coached start to finish

A PWR coach runs the warm-up, the main strength work and the finisher — correcting form and adjusting load as the class moves.

Genuinely small caps

10 at PWR 72, 6 at PWR 82. Small enough that your coach knows your name, your history and what you lifted last week.

Drop in, no membership

Single classes and class packs. Train the weeks you're in town; skip the ones you're not.

Beginner-friendly by design

Every exercise comes with a modification and a progression, so your first class is never a guessing game.

Full-body programming

Push, pull, hinge, squat and carry across the week — real barbell, dumbbell and machine strength work, not a cardio class in disguise.

A room that notices you

The same faces week to week. Community is a big part of why people keep coming back to Group Strength.

Your first class

New to lifting? Start here.

You don't need a training background to take a Group Strength class. Arrive a few minutes early, tell your coach about anything they should know, and they'll set your starting loads and swap any movement that doesn't suit you that day.

Prefer to learn the lifts one-on-one first? Many people pair classes with personal training or start with beginner strength training.

Client stories

What the room feels like

Started strength training later in life

"Everything I've read about longevity points to the importance of weight training, so I decided to give it a try… now I'm completely hooked. Emily is lovely, inspiring, and an incredibly skilled teacher. The gym itself is inclusive, positive, and genuinely welcoming — every body truly feels at home here."

The private gym environment

"After working out with Carolyn for many years, I just had my first session at the new PWR NYC studio. Quiet and clean, it enhances the personalized service that Carolyn delivers. PWR NYC has more equipment than large national gyms that I have worked out in."

FAQs

Group Strength questions

What is Group Strength at PWR?
Group Strength is a coach-led, full-body strength class. Everyone works through the same session while a PWR coach sets your weights, cues your technique and adjusts movements in real time.
How many people are in a class?
Classes are capped at 10 people at PWR 72 on West 72nd Street and 6 people at PWR 82 on Broadway, so you keep a coach's eyes on you throughout.
Do I need a membership?
No. Group Strength is drop-in — book a single class or use a class pack. There are no monthly dues and no contract.
Is it beginner-friendly?
Yes. Every movement has a modification and a progression, so first-timers and experienced lifters train in the same room without either being left behind.
How is this different from Small Group Training?
Small Group Training is a four-week committed block capped at four people with individualized programming. Group Strength is a drop-in class on a set schedule with a shared session, scaled per person.
How do I book a class?
Book through the PWR app or on the web. If you would like a coach to walk you through the format first, start with a complimentary consultation.
